Seven prayers for a yes

These do not manufacture faith. They put the will where it can be taken: into his hands. You may already know the Our Father. You may have never prayed at all. Start where you are. Pray one slowly. Then do the next honest thing.

The Lord’s Prayer

He puts the whole of a life with God in a few petitions: the Father’s name, the Father’s kingdom, the Father’s will — then the bread of this day. God’s moment is not later. It is this day, this loaf, this forgiveness.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.

If you keep only one, keep the Our Father. If the will is clenched, pray the Litany. If you do not know the way, pray de Foucauld. Then go do the thing that is being asked.
